New Video | Glen Affric in The Scottish Highlands - One of Scotland’s Most Beautiful Glens

A couple of weeks ago I visited beautiful Glen Affric in the Scottish Highlands, which is often considered the most beautiful glen in Scotland.

Here’s a link to the film I made of my visit to Glen Affric on my YouTube channel, which I really hope you enjoy - https://youtu.be/NUsl15tJnqQ  Don’t forget to subscribe to be notified of new films -it’s completely free!

I really hope you enjoy this film of the gorgeous 'River Trail' and the 'Am Meallan Viewpoint Trail' in lovely Glen Affric, which is about a 30 minute drive from Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands.

The River Trail is just one of the many beautiful walks which you can follow in the Glen Affric Nature Reserve and I'll be posting videos of many of the others in the next few weeks.

The River Trail follows a section of the River Affric amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. There is a (paid) public car park at the start of the River Trail, which follows a gravel path for about half a mile. It's a bit uneven in places, so make sure you're wearing suitable footwear if you visit. It normally takes about half an hour to do the River Trail and about 20 minutes to climb to the magnificent Am Meallan viewpoint, which has great views of Loch Affric and Loch Beinn a' Mheadhain. It's a fairly steep, but short, walk up the Am Meallan trail to the viewpoint, so only attempt if you're in good health. The views are just amazing in all directions and well worth the climb.

Glen Affric has a very special place in my heart. Its Gaelic name "Gleann Afraig' means 'the glen of the dappled ford'. Its scenery is amongst some of the most beautiful in Scotland - an incredible mix of lochs, pinewoods, rivers & mountains that offers an unrivalled landscape anywhere in the world. It's the sense of serenity and peace that I value the most. It has a spirit and a certain tranquility that makes it a place of healing and rejuvenation.

Keep your eyes peeled for Eagles, Ospreys, Crossbills, Pine Martens, Toads, Damselflies and Dragonflies, some of which are very rare. I got incredibly lucky and saw two Pine Martens on the drive home, which was just amazing given how few there are left in the wild.

I stayed in a lovely camping place called Cannich Woodland Camping & Caravan Park which was excellent. They were super friendly and the cafe was just wonderful and a real bonus. Cannich also has an excellent grocery store & cafe (in an old double-decker bus!) which makes it a great base for discovering the glen. It was about a 20 minute drive into the glen on single-track roads from the camping site. Please be extremely careful on the single-track roads and take your time. All the major trails have excellent car-parks and a few have public toilets. You can get a map of all the trails from the Visitor Centre in Drumnadrochit.

The licensed music in the film is by Clannad and the wonderful Karen Matheson, who's one of my favourite singers of all time. She has a very beautiful voice and I really recommend her band ‘Capercaillie’ which has some wonderful albums.

Thanks for watching. It's just me doing the filming, so a like and a subscription really helps me out to keep filming. If you'd like to hire me as your guide, or for filming, you can contact me through my website -
