If you’re planning to visit St Abbs in the Scottish Borders, I really hope you enjoy the video and find the following information useful. St Abbs is a small fishing village on the east coast of Scotland in the lovely Scottish Borders. Prior to the residential establishment of the village in the middle of the 18th century, the local fishermen lived close by in ‘Coldingham Shore’ and travelled to their boats on the shore.

Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns 2025

We visited Edinburgh Zoo on the opening day of its beautiful giant lanterns trail and had a wonderful time. With the long, dark winter nights, it’s lovely to visit and be cheered up by all the beautiful and colourful lanterns. The theme this year is ‘underwater’ and along the trail you’ll see everything from mermaids, whales and dolphins, to tropical fish, birds and turtles.

One of the things I most love to do in Edinburgh, is wander around the city with my camera and discover new and interesting things to photograph. Even though I’ve lived & worked in Edinburgh for over fifty years, I’m always astonished and excited to come across something new and beautiful in the city.

Edinburgh With An Old Compact Camera - The Canon PowerShot G10

In this day of impressively spec’d cameras and smartphones, it’s hugely refreshing to go old school and use an older camera that delivers beautiful, pleasing images you just can’t get with the latest tech. In this article I take the G10 to Edinburgh’s Old Town and Princes Street gardens to see what I can capture on this old compact.

One of my favourite historic sites to visit in Edinburgh is the beautiful & atmospheric Greyfriar’s Kirkyard in Edinburgh. The Kirk opened its doors in 1620 and recently celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2020. Greyfriars Kirkyard is one of Edinburgh's most fascinating and atmospheric burial grounds. Aside from the incredible history (and stories, which abound about this beautiful graveyard) it's also a peaceful, green space in the heart of the city, that's full of wildlife.

As an Edinburgh Tour Guide I get a lot of questions about visiting Edinburgh, Scotland’s Capital, and I thought it’d be a good idea to create a video answering some of the most common questions I get. The video covers everything from travel, accommodation, the Scottish weather, public transport, music and food, and I hope you find it really useful when you’re visiting Edinburgh.

The Remote Mountains & Lochs of Assynt & Coigach in The Scottish Highlands - a True Scottish Wilderness

Two of my favourite parts of Scotland are Assynt in Sutherland and neighbouring Coigach in Ross & Cromarty, in the north west Scottish Highlands. Remote, rugged and wild, these beautiful areas are often neglected by visitors, which is a pity, as they are full of beautiful lochs, mountains and wildlife that will take your breath away!
