Wildlife & Spring Flowers in Edinburgh, Scotland - Short Film

Hope you enjoy this short film, which I shot in the local woodlands around my home in West Edinburgh. The spring has arrived here in Scotland, and it’s lovely to see all the spring flowers and the land turning green again.

Edinburgh offers so much, but living in the west of the city I get the best of both worlds - quick access to a beautiful, historical city, but also lovely countryside and wildlife right on my doorstep. I try to get out every day into the woodlands and fields around my home and it’s amazing what you can see. On my local river, I regularly see Kingfishers perched on small branches looking for fish in the river below and Roe Deer and birds of prey are nearly always around, if you look carefully enough. It’s really quite amazing and I really do feel lucky to have all this right on my doorstep.

In this short film, I just wanted to capture some of the local Spring flowers and wildlife and celebrate them. Spring is always a joyous time of year in Scotland after the long, dark winter months and it really does seem like a different world - green, vibrant and luscious!

The lovely pony in the video is a wonderful wee character and I try to say hello whenever I’m in that neck of the woods. He’s just got a new friend and the two of them seem very happy together. It’s well into lambing season here and I have a real soft spot for all the new borns that are always excitedly running around the fields. The geese too are rearing their young, and it’s always a lovely thing to see them following their parents around and learning how to fend for themselves.

The woodlands are very much alive with vast carpets of beautiful bluebells, vibrant rhododendrons and wild garlic, which are always a joy to see. The bees are starting to get very busy and you’ll see in the video a bee, completely covered in nectar, busily going about its work. Also listen out for the woodpeckers in the woodlands, which I always enjoy hearing.

Hope you really enjoy watching and if you’d like to be informed of new videos, you can subscribe to my YouTube channel for free and/or my newsletter.
